This is the first in a series of quick interviews with Aussies practicing their craft here in the UK. Today Heaps Good asks 5 questions with Teneille Sorgiovanni, an ultra talented make-up artist via Melbourne who has made the move over to London 6 months ago.
As a makeup artist, what do you feel is really at the core of what you do?
For me, mainly it’s to create characters, build personalities that help define a narrative. Also enhancing facial features and bringing out inner beauty that makes a person feel great!
What has been your journey through the industry so far?
I have 5 years experience in the industry working primarily in fashion, editorial and music videos – however I’m experienced in all areas of makeup. I worked at Napoleon Perdis Cosmetics as a Makeup Academy Trainer and Creative Team Member in Australia as well as focusing on freelance work for various editorials, designers and commercial work.
Since coming to London what have you been doing professionally?
Freelancing and assisting represented Makeup Artist and Hair Stylists in the industry.
How have you found the shift from Australia to working in the UK?
Its a huge eye opener, a completely different scene which is establishing my skill and knowledge in the industry, I’m loving it! Being open to a variety of techniques and inspiration plus working with lots of different creatives makes it all very exciting. I must say it has been hard rebuilding contacts again but completely worth it, passion and perseverance will get you there.
Whats coming up in the future?
I will be doing makeup for the photo shoot of Western Australian designer OnTour who will be sending the SS11 collection to UK! Very excited to be creating looks for the label that travels through parallel creative fields in art, design, music and illustration – Visual Sound.
